BA3a - Female Sniper Design

Pictured above are some of the images I've collected to inspire me with the next designs. There are only images from League of Legends on the first board as I own The Art of Overwatch, (pictured below,) a book which gives me insights on the design stages and whys on each of the aspects included in the game. I used these two games, games which I know, as examples of what can be good or bad about class or character designs.

I then went online to google images of real life clothing that I could use in my creations. There would be many similarities between these clothings, my designs and those which have already been designed. In my notes there are small things to remind myself that I don't need to be afraid to try new or different things, and to hopefully not stray me off my path.

The stages of iteration I have gone through can be seen in these images. These are to do with the clothing and the weapons and their colours. When I was torn, I'd try out all the choices I couldn't decide between so I could have a better look and understanding of what would be better.

I wanted more winter-camouflage colours rather than the autumn colours which are common in cold climate. This is because this is essentially a survival trait to have, you'd want to blend in and not be easily seen while you are fighting, shooting or hiding, however you want to play it. So while the autumn colours are common and look nice in our world, it would not be very practical when it comes to being in the game.

Pictured left is a larger version of the figure and colours I picked in the end, with arrows indicating what things are and what type of material I'd like the pieces to be made of in hope that I would be able to convey them in the final painting.

I choose the two designs for the pistol and the sniper rifle that looked like they could be in a set together. Placing the colour combinations against the rough drawing of the figure gave me an idea of what it would look like close to the final painting.

I liked the grey and blue but it seemed to blend in too much with the piece, having too much blue around, so I preferred the near-white and black one as it gave more of a contrast to the piece as a whole. The dark grey and black would have been too dark for this. I hope that the other classes I create will not be too similar in weapon colours to the sniper ones.

BA3a - 2 Month Recap

It has been just over 2 months since my last entry onto BlogSpot. I'm currently at my family house, home for the holidays and still working. I'm not sure whether or not I'll be able to complete it all but if I stick to my schedule, it should be fine. I have things planned and written down and it should be ok.

Since my last post I had had a meeting with Mark, and had not attended any other sessions really.
Mark informed me that what I had drawn lacked a sense of direction, and he was right; I was just designing people and dressing them for no reason. While that made me feel as though 8 weeks had passed of this 3rd year and nothing had been done and I had to start all over, it wasn't the case. I had to go back, but I still had the hair iterations and the body shapes so it wasn't too bad. I also used it for painting practice, and I quite liked the way it turned out, and it was fun so it was okay.

It did put a downer on my mood and with how I am, it prevented me from being able to do things and so I lost a few days, but we never give up, so let's go.

So I'm going to use this blog entry to outline and explain all the things I've done up to creating the first character of the Female Sniper and then create separate posts for those -
I went back and thought about any scenarios which would place people against each other in a Battle Royale arena and cause them to fight against one another. An apocalyptic world or anything alike is too cliche for me but it is cliche because it makes sense, so I decided to go a similar route but not down the same path - a frozen world. A freak accident changed the world, lowered the temperatures, let water bodies freeze and moved the world into an ice age. There is snow and ice all around in the arctic tundra.

Choosing a frozen, cold environment allows me to build and create people with the body shapes and clothes fitting to the environment and do something different to the athletic, fit builds and possibly revealing or standard clothes that a lot of games have. (Revealing in the loosest sense.) But I didn't want to do that, so I opted for a different approach.
I researched what type of clothes and materials would be most common in these conditions, including what colours there were as well in winter clothing. I used examples of characters in games that I enjoyed to influence me and give me suggestions on what to do, what clothes and styles I'd like the classes to wear.

Below are examples of the revised Moodboards for the arctic conditions of the new world I've imagined. Please excuse the blinding red in the background - that's how I distinguished between these and the old versions. It does feel a lot better with a set direction to go in and also world in which to work in instead of just going in blindly, which was basically what I was doing
