I had missed the first week due to not being able to get back to Norwich from my family home and was supposed to present my elevator pitch on the Wednesday but I didn't know where to go and what to do. I attended my session on Thursday but couldn't find anyone to talk to. Since then I have been bedridden for about a week due to illness but as my computer is very close to my desk I have been able to move from the bed to the PC in order to carry on with my work. I will be looking to do my elevator pitch when I can get back, which would be week 4 by then. The issue with this is a huge worry that everything I have been doing is wrong, which was a problem in the last unit.
Week 1 - Elevator Pitch
Pipeline Production - Character Design
I really want to pursue Character Design which is why I have chosen it as my basis again for my second unit. Already starting these slides shows how much more excited and prepared for BA3b I am than I was for BA3b: there is more information and planning, there's set goals and timescales and it looks generally nicer. On the first slide I have given the information and reasoning behind why I wanted to do this for this unit, I have created clear outcomes for both essential and additional pieces to submit and what needs to be included in each piece.
On the second slide I have written down my schedule for the upcoming weeks in what I want to do. The plan is per week and I believe I have given myself sufficient time to complete the tasks I have set for myself in each week. Instead of planning out each day, I have just written what I should be doing in the week. This way it puts less pressure on myself if I have a bad day or I can't get myself up to do them, it won't be carrying it over. I have found that I already work better and happy with this but it is only the third week, so we'll see how I deal with being behind on these things in this week. I am going into this BA3b with a lot more confidence and direction and it feels good. I just hope to keep up with blog posts as well as the weeks, as I have also detailed the things I would like to include in the blog posts on the second slide. This post should be the only one with 2 weeks in the recap - fingers crossed!
I would love to be able to do the bonus pieces so it all becomes a "set" and look more official and nice but they're down as bonus pieces so I don't have to pressure of having to do it. I have allocated time for them but should any weeks have to roll over, I have given myself 3 weeks at the end for that.
Week 2 - Connection to the Overwatch World
Background, body shape, Weapons and-Playstyle
In the 2 slides pictured below I have included examples of the type of thing I want to produce - a "cover" reference image, a full body painting with assets and weapons. The T style rotation of the body is rendered and turned so I won't be able to include that but I may be able to do something like that. I don't particularly want to put too much pressure on myself has that would mean I wouldn't be able to achieve anything I'd want to.
The slide underneath contains some of my research as to why this new hero would turn to the organisation Talon. I have gathered information as to why the known 5 heroes in Overwatch had become associated with Talon in hope that I gain inspiration for my hero. I researched what Talon was about and stood for and what had happened to each hero causing them to turn to Talon for what they needed. Although the slide has not been finished (no writings for Doomfist and little for Sombra) I had gained enough of an idea from the other heroes and the general idea and actions of Talon.
I may not have decided on a few things - where this hero is from or their real/agent name but I have managed to figure out the back story to the hero, the gender, and how she may be played. The first slide features notes and references to Widowmaker's animated short and what the other heroes associated with Talon look like. I had written notes on how she will be played, the resources she has and her personality and in the next slide, I wrote all the information out fully like it would appear on the website. The abilities are not set in stone but the enough of the idea is there for me to be able to start creating the character design - what they're like, what they wear and the devices they carry. Of course these abilities are not what it would look like on the site as they are more note-like than I'd like but I was spending too much time trying to figure it out and it's something I can do if I get to the site section of the project.
One small thing to note which I quite like is just the consistency in the colours and design of the slides so far - it looks cleaner and more serious/official and therefore rather comforts me and motivates me strangely. I hope to carry this on for the information and drawn pieces and then when I submit, or post it on any portfolio-like websites, it will be more consistent and professional too.
